About

Crow Cedar Clearing is on the contractor list for Uvalde and Real County Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) cedar eradication program which services 7 surrounding counties. I have worked various properties for years as a contractor and used their services as a consumer.  Through this relationship, I have become familiar with their program requirements and personnel.

Crow Cedar Clearing has ongoing contracts with landholders to assist in maintaining tax exemptions and approved wildlife management programs.  Landholders use practices set out in guidelines from various wildlife management programs such as NRCS, Plateau Wildlife Management and personal conservation plans approved by and local taxing entities.

Why clear cedar on your property?

Studies have shown that 0.4 inches of rain will fall on a cedar tree before any water reaches the soil below.  Of the moisture that reaches the ground, 60% is captured by the root system of that cedar tree.  If second growth cedars are covering pastures and growing under desirable trees, your home or ranch property has a problem.  Due to the presence of all that cedar, your land is unable to benefit from native grasslands filtering runoff by slowing water movement across and down through the surface, slowing erosion.  As the cedar trees grow prolifically around the drip line of desirable trees, rain water off the canopy falls on cedar trees and does not get below the surface to “host tree” roots as nature intended.  These factors coupled with our infrequent rains result in dried up soil and nature’s inability to replenish ground water supplies.

After cedar clearing you will see marked improvement in existing or newly planted grassland.  Your trees’ renewed ability to capitalize on groundwater and rains will lead to fresh growth around the canopy, improvements in existing water supplies and in some cases, new water flows.  Refer to Texas A&M and Texas Parks and Wildlife for more on range land reclamation.
